Today’s scholarship is the New York Water Environment Association Scholarship (NYWEA Scholarship), which is sponsored by the NYWEA, a non-profit dedicated to “promoting sustainable clean water quality management through science, education and training.” Their scholarship program is a wonderful way that the NYWEA promotes their mission. This year, they are offering a total of $27,000 in scholarship awards!
The scholarship awards are broken down as follows:
- One (1) award of $10,000 (paid over four years–$1,000, $2,000, $3,000, and $4,000 the fourth year).
- Two (2) awards of $1,500 for children of NYWEA members
- Two (2) awards of $1,500 for students enrolled in a college/university with a NYWEA student chapter
- Two (2) awards of $1,500 for high school students who will be studying something environmentally related
The $10,000 Major Environmental Scholarship and the $1,500 scholarship each have a separate application which can be found online. Students who are interested in the $10,000 Major Environmental Scholarship must be high school seniors from New York who are planning on enrolling in a full-time BS/BE degree program with an environmental focus (environmental engineering, environmental science, etc.)
Both scholarships require an essay, recommendation from school (teacher, principal, etc.), personal recommendation (from a non-family member), and a copy of the student’s transcript.
The deadline for these scholarships is January 19, 2012 so you have a little bit more than a week!
Completed applications can be sent to the NYWEA Executive Office:
525 Plum Street, Suite 102
Syracuse, NY 13204
If students have any questions, they can reach out to the NYWEA: 315.422.7811
Best of luck to all students!
