First Wind Scholars Program

logo  First Wind Scholars ProgramFirst Wind, an independent wind energy company based out of Boston, is currently offering a very generous scholarship program to high school seniors who plan on studying environmental sciences, general sciences, health sciences or engineering at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in fall 2012 for the entire academic year. These scholarships are worth $3,000 each, and up to 15 will be handed out; also, one $5,000 scholarship (that is renewable for however long it takes to attain your bachelors) will be awarded. In addition to this, applicants must have at least a 2.75 out of 4.00 GPA, and must have an interest in renewable energy. Finally, to be fully eligible, applicants must be from one of the following communities in Hawaii, Maine, New York, Utah, Vermont, Washington, or Massachusetts:

  • Laie, Oahu, HI
  • Maui, HI
  • Danforth, ME
  • Dyer Brook, ME
  • Ellsworth, ME
  • Hancock, ME
  • Mars Hill, ME
  • Penobscot County, ME (Burlington, Lee, Lincoln, Winn)
  • Sullivan, ME
  • Cohocton, NY
  • Hamburg, NY
  • Lackawanna, NY
  • Beaver, UT
  • Milford, UT
  • Barton, VT
  • Sheffield, VT
  • Whitman County, WA (Garfield, Oakesdale, Roasalia, Saint John, Spangle, Tekoa)
  • or attending John D. O’Bryant School of Math & Science, Boston, MA
The entire application can be started, completed, and submitted through registering on First Wind’s scholarship site. The application is due on February 15, 2012, and winners will be notified March 1, 2012. If you have any questions, direct them to firstwind@scholarshipamerica.org. Good luck!
