While I am not a reader myself, Seventeen magazine (along with Figment and Scholastic) does offer a fantastic opportunity for writers: the Seventeen 2011 Fiction Contest. The winner of this writing contest will be awarded a $5,000 cash award, the opportunity to have their story published on Seventeen.com, and a phone call with one of the contest’s judges, Maggie Stiefvater (who penned the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy)!
The guidelines for the contest are simple: the (original) story has a maximum limit of 500 words, all entries must be submitted by December 31, 2011 (by midnight), and entrants must be girls between the ages of 13 and 21. You will be able to vote for other stories (although the website this contest is being hosted by- Figment- calls it “hearting”), and the number of hearts will determine 50 of the 60 finalists. These 50 finalists (along with ten others chosen by Seventeen) will be judged by Maggie Stiefvater and the editors of Seventeen magazine. Keep in mind that, in order to enter this contest, you must have a Figment account.
The grand prize winner will be announced on or around April 1, 2012. You can view already-submitted stories here, and the contest rules here. Best of luck!
