Rice is a staple in many diets across the world–especially in the US.  In fact, according to the USA Rice Federation, “85% of the rice consumed in the United States is grown in the U.S.”

The USA Rice Federation is an advocacy organization for the U.S. rice industry.  In honor of  National Rice Month (which happens to be in September), the USA Rice Federation will offer a scholarship opportunity!

Because the majority of rice is grown in Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Texas, students who are high school seniors from these states are eligible to apply!

This scholarship program awards three students a total of $8,500 ($4,000 for first, $3,000 for second, $1,500 for third).

The major part of this scholarship program is creating a “promotion activity” that is focused on the U.S. rice industry.  This promotion activity must be conducted in September.  Some of the example topics from the scholarship are:

  • Nutritional benefits of U.S.-grown rice
  • Culinary versatility of U.S.-grown rice
  • Economic importance of U.S. rice production and processing
  • Conservation and environmental benefits of the U.S. rice industry

The scholarship form is available online and requires students to describe their promotion activity and the importance of rice in their state.

Completed scholarship applications can be sent to:
