The United States Senate Youth Program

ussyplogo The United States Senate Youth ProgramThe United State Senate Youth Program describes itself as “a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service”. This program (which happens to be in its 50th year of operation) selects two student leaders from each state to spend a week in Washington, D.C. (from March 3-10, 2012), where they will meet with Senators, cabinet members, officials from federal agencies, and participate in a meeting with a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition to all of this, all transportation, hotel and meal expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundations. Finally, each of the invited “student leaders” will also be awarded a $5,000 College Scholarship for undergraduate studies, with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science.

To apply for this program, applicants must contact their state selection contact (a list of which can be found at this link). Deadlines for this program vary (with some states such as Washington having their deadline as early as August 5), so make sure to find out when your state wants your forms submitted. For more information on how to apply, check out the “How to Apply” (of course!) page on the program’s website. Other useful links regarding the United State Senate Youth Program:
