pminkmedium Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation Scholarship Program The Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation is a foundation that aims to remember and carry on the legacy of United States Congresswoman Patsy Takemoto who was the first woman of color elected to the United States House of Representatives. Patsy Takemoto was a staunch supporter of women’s rights and education, so the Patsy Foundation offers a scholarship each year in her name. This year, five scholarship opportunities of $2,000 are available!

In general, applicants should be low-income women who have children.  Applications should be enrolled in an educational program or pursuing a post-secondary degree.

 

The specific criteria from the scholarship website is as follows:

  • must be a woman, at least 17 years of age
  • must be a mother, with minor children
  • must be enrolled in a skills training, ESL, or GED program; or pursuing a technical/vocational degree, an associate’s degree, a first bachelor’s degree, or a professional/master’s/doctoral degree.
  • must be enrolled in an accredited program during the 2010-2011 academic year
  • must be low-income (annual family income less than $17,500 for a family of 2; $22,000 for a family of 3; $26,500 for a family of 4)

Scholarship applicants are available online from the Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation website. The application includes 2 references, 5 short answer questions, and a 500 word essay.
