The LeRoy Apker Awards are administered annually by the American Physical Society to recognize and reward undergraduate students for outstanding work in physics. Two awards may be presented each year, 1 to a student from a Ph. D. granting institution and 1 to a student from a non-Ph. D. granting institution. The award to the recipient(s) is in the amount of $5,000, an allowance for travel to the meeting of the Society at which the award is being presented, and a certificate citing the work and school of the recipient. Finalists will receive $2000 a piece, and the Physics Department of the school from which winners attend will receive a $5000 award ($1000 to the schools of finalists).
According to the American Physical Society website, the rules for eligibily are as follows:
Nominations are open to students at colleges and universities in the United States who were enrolled as undergraduates during at least part of the 12-month period preceding the submittal deadline. Only one graduate may be nominated per department. The candidate should have completed or be completing the requirements for an undergraduate degree with an excellent academic record and should have demonstrated exceptional potential for scientific research by an original contribution to physics.
