Capture the Dream Scholarship Program

27532 106778289359200 1732 n Capture the Dream Scholarship ProgramCapture the Dream is an Oakland-based not-for-profit organization dedicated towards students achieve their dreams.  The mission statement of Capture the Dream is:

foster hope, love, and support to capture dreams. We strive to interpret your dreams, invigorate you to achieve them, and initiate contagious inspiration.

Sounds pretty cool right? In line with their mission, Capture the Dream has an annual scholarship program to help students pay for their college education.

The Capture the Dream scholarship program is made up of two different awards:

  • The Single Parents Scholarship
  • The George Geng On Lee Minorities in Leadership Scholarship

The Single Parents Scholarship is worth $1,000 and is available to students who are single parents who are California residents. To be eligible for the Single Parents Scholarship, applicants must be graduating high school seniors or full time students at two or four-year colleges or universities.

The George Geng On Lee Minorities in Leadership Scholarship is also worth $1,000 and is available to all minority students. Like the Single Parents Scholarship, this award is for students who are graduating high school seniors or full time students at two or four-year institutions.

Both scholarships require:

  • A completed application
  • Cover Letter
  • Professional Resume
  • Academic Transcript
  • Financial Aid Web-Award Confirmation
  • Essay (the specific essay topics for each award can be found here)
  • Minimum of 1 Letter of Recommendation  (from a teacher, boss, community service supervisor, etc.)

The applications for these scholarships are available online.

The scholarship committee will be looking at the following factors when evaluating applications:

  • Financial need
  • Leadership history
  • Community service record
  • Professional recommendations
  • Academic performance

So these are all considerations to make when crafting your essays and cover letters!
