The Association for Women Geoscientists awards the Association for Women Geoscientists Minority Scholarship to underrepresented minority (African American, Hispanic, or Native American) women who are interested in/are currently working on an undergrad degree in the geosciences (which includes geology, geophysics, geochemistry, hydrology, meteorology, physical oceanography, planetary geology, or earth science education). Whether you are a full time student pursuing your undergrad degree, or are a high school senior, feel free to apply; the Association awards one or more awards totaling $6000! Also, the scholarship will match the student with a mentor in the same field who will offer guidance and support.
The application calls for a statement of academic and career goals, two letters of recommendation, high school and college transcripts, and SAT or ACT scores. The application can be downloaded as a word document at the scholarship’s webpage. If you have any questions, direct them to Christina Tapia (awgscholarship@yahoo.com). When the application is completed, mail it to:
Association for Women Geoscientists
Attn. Minority Scholarship
12000 N. Washington St., Suite 285
Thorton, Colorado 80241
This scholarship is due June 30th, 2011. Best of luck!

According to the AWG website, these undergraduate scholarships are “given each summer”, so, yes, I believe they are offered annually (once a year). Good luck!
