I am a big sports fan. Although, my teams (Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, and Wake Forest) are not doing so well this year, we are going to profile the Associated Press Sports Editors Scholarships.
Are you (or someone you know) involved in sports journalism? If so this scholarship could be a great opportunity. Actually, there are four different scholarship opportunities available that are worth $1,500 each!
To be eligible students must be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior years of college. The scholarship committee is going to be focused on the students’ experience/interest in sports journalism. They will be also looking at academics and financial need. The head of the scholarship committee is Joe Sullivan, who is the sports editor of the Boston Globe.
Application packets must include the following information in a cover letter:
- Name, address, age, phone number
- Financial information (tuition costs, financial situation)
Additionally, applicants should include a copy of their college transcript and five examples of sports journalism (including both stories and sections that the student has edited).
