American Foundation for Translation and Interpretation Scholarship

The official name for this scholarship is actually the American Foundation for Translation and Interpretation JTG Scholarship in Scientific and Technical Translation Interpretation.  Yeah, it is quite a mouthful.  However, it is also a great scholarship opportunity (worth $2,500!) for college and graduate students who are studying scientific and technical translation or in interpreter training.

To be eligible for this scholarship award students must be full-time students who have completed at least one year of college or university with a minimum of a 3.o overall GPA and a 3.5 GPA in translation and interpretation-related courses. Applicants must also be United States citizens to qualify for the award.

The scholarship committee will be looking at “demonstrated achievement in translation and interpretation” which the applicant can show through their academic record and a 300-500 word essay about their goals in the field of translation or interpretation.

Additionally, students will need to submit three letters of recommendation (with a signature over the envelope) and a transcript.

The application for this scholarship can be found online.

Completed scholarships must be sent to the scholarship committee by June 6, 2011:
