Gemological Institute of America Scholarships

Todays little “gem” of a scholarship has to do with gemology or the study of gems (I apologize for the terrible pun).  Sponsored by the Gemological Institute of America, the scholarship is offered to students pursing degree or taking classes in the Gemology and Jewelry Manufacturing Arts fields. One of the interesting things about looking for new scholarships everyday, is that you find really unique organizations like this and learn a little something new!

Specifically, this scholarship is for students interested in pursuing distance or eLearning classes.  This is really cool, because eLearning and distance education provides a really great service to people who can’t access a traditional classroom.  The application period started on March 1 and ends April 30.  However, a second application period begins on June 15 and goes until October 30.  This second application period awards scholarships that can be used for on-campus programs.

The application is available online and includes a letter of recommendation and a personal statement.  Application materials can be sent to scholarship@gia.edu with “2011 Scholarship Application” in the email subject.
