B’nail B’rith International is a Jewish humanitarian and human rights group. They are dedicated to working for tolerance and respect and against antisemitism throughout 50 countries in the world. Each year, B’nail B’rith International sponsors the “Diverse Minds Writing Challenge” for high school students. In the 2011 contest, applicants from New York City and Memphis, Tennessee are eligible to enter!
This scholarship has students write and illustrate a children’s book that promotes the values of B’nail B’rith–notably tolerance and respect:
This scholarship competition asks high school students to write and illustrate a children’s book that discusses the topics of tolerance and diversity. Executed through public and private high schools, the Challenge encourages teens to create innovative ways to teach tolerance to elementary-aged children, as well as encounter new insights into these issues for themselves.
The “Diverse Minds Writing Challenge” website profiles some past winners of the contest. This is a great resource for helping you get started, so that you can know what sorts of stories and books the scholarship committee is looking for.
All submissions must be postmarked by March 7, 2011 and sent to:
B’nai B’rith International
3397 Barham Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90068
The scholarship website is very helpful and has some more details!
Best of luck!
