Each year, the Council of Citizens with Low Vision International offers three $3000 scholarships to students with low vision. To be exact, the applicants must have an acuity of 20/70 or lower in the better seeing eye with best possible correction, or side vision with a maximum diameter of no greater than 30 degrees. This scholarship is open to high school seniors who will be entering college, as well as to undergraduate and graduate students. The applicant may be enrolled part or full time at their accredited institution, but, no matter what, they must have a GPA of at least 3.2. Furthermore, an applicant must submit a certified transcript from the school which they currently attend, two letters of recommendation, verification of low vision (which is further outlined on the CCLVI website), and, for you high school seniors, a letter of acceptance from your future college. Finally, there is an essay segment to the application, and, if you are part of the finalist application process, there may be a phone interview.

The deadline for this scholarship is March 1, 2011. For more information, head over to the CCLVI Fred Scheigert Scholarship Guidelines page. If this particular scholarship doesn’t interest you, the CCLVI offers other scholarships related to eyesight for students as well. Good luck!
