scholarship banner The Vegetarian Resource Group ScholarshipToday we are coming at you a little bit later with a really interesting scholarship opportunity.  This is a great organization that promotes vegetarianism through a variety of educational resources.  Vegetarianism of course involves not eating fish, meat, or fowl.  Personally, I refrain from all meat and fowl (I cannot give up fish!), so I can sympathize with the values of VRG.  I would encourage anyone who has ever been curious about vegetarianism to check out the Vegetarian Resource Group. However, if you have promoted vegetarianism in your school or community, you should check out the scholarship.

This scholarship opportunity will be awarded to two high school seniors who will be attending college in the fall of 2011.  The amount of each award is $5,000. According to the VRG website:

Applicants will be judged on having shown compassion, courage, and a strong commitment to promoting a peaceful world through a vegetarian diet/lifestyle.

The scholarship website also has articles about past winners, so you can get a good idea of what the scholarship committee is looking for!

The application for the scholarship is available online and includes an essay in which the applicant has to address sixteen different issues.

In addition to their application, students need to submit a copy of their transcript, at least three recommendations, and any documentation that talks about your involvement in vegetarian promotion.

Completed applications can be sent to:

The Vegetarian Resource Group

P.O. Box 1463

Baltimore, Maryland 21203

The application is due February 20, 2011, and early submission is recommended!

As always, best of luck and if you think it helpful, please forward this scholarship to a friend!
