Organization like the American Fire Sprinklers Association are certainly instrumental in combating home fires (and yes, the AFSA is a real organization).
The mission of the American Fire Sprinklers Association (AFSA) is very straightforward: they represent open shop fire sprinkler contractors and also promote the utilization of automatic fire sprinkler systems. A narrow focus? yes.
However, the American Fire Sprinklers Association is global in scope. More so, their efforts aid in saving both billions of dollars and thousands of people lost in fires throughout the world.
In addition to this, the AFSA is helping high school students through their scholarship opportunity.
They offer 10 scholarships worth $2,000 each to eligible high school seniors.
This is a pretty broad opportunity and the only stipulations are that you must be enrolling in school in the Fall 2011. Additionally, students who are related to members of the AFSA staff or board may not apply for the scholarship.
This is an interesting scholarship, because you are required to learn a little bit more about fire sprinklers to enter. You apply with an online quiz of ten different questions–for each question you get correct you get an extra entry in the scholarship drawing. The AFSA offers an overview for students to use to learn about fire sprinklers (note: the online quiz is open-note).
Once you have reviewed the materials, you are ready to take the quiz. Interested students have until April 5, 2011 to apply.
Yes, this is a very easy scholarship to apply to, but it is still worth doing so. It gives you an opportunity to easily enter a scholarship without worrying about writing essays. And who knows, maybe it will pay off.
The introduction of Scholarship program from the American Fire Sprinklers Association to the high school senior students is a welcome process. By reading the material provided by the AFSA the students get awareness about the fire protection system. We may have number of contacts of fire sprinkler contractor through AFSA. This is one of the best opportunity for the students to get their scholarship and for AFSA to create awareness of the use of the fire sprinkler system.
